Honoring the Past at South

The Alumni Foundation is working with both North High and South High to help plan and publicize a final "walkthrough" and other alumni events in April. South Walkthrough is scheduled from 1 to 5 pm.

South Open House Program of Activities: Power point/projector presentation in the auditorium on the history of SHS, featured sports and SHS sports personalities in the gym, refreshments, music and singing, art displays provided in cafeteria, MJROTC escort people around the building.

A picture of SHS will be presented to all those attending this event. Contact: Pauline Swan at 328-2027 with questions. 

Honoring the Past at North

The Alumni Foundation is working with both North High and South High to help plan and publicize a final "walkthrough" and other alumni events in April. NorthWalkthrough is scheduled from 2 to 6 pm.

Visitors to North will be able to tour the school and enjoy activities planned to honor the traditions and history of North High.

In addition, Panther fans can enjoy the excitement of the final Panther Classic, hosted by North Baseball that afternoon, and come back in the evening for the very last performance of a North High Musical, Footloose - which features a choir of alumni and staff!

Hats Off to Laurene Morse the People Finder 
Laurene Morse, a GAA member who played volleyball, graduated from Springfield High School in January of 1939. She said her fondest memories of those times were of how happy she was with her great teachers. One teacher in particular was a character.  Mrs. Gomer an English teacher always talked with her pen in her mouth; and as her lesson wore on, ink started seeping out of the pen and down the corners of her mouth and then down her chin. "It was a hoot," she said.

She is now Laurene Ehrle.  At her 25th reunion there were many names that her classmates couldn't find.  She took the missing names home and started to work on them.  In the last 54 years, she has found the addresses for hundreds of people for their class reunions.  Now she is helping the Springfield Alumni Foundation by lending us her books, her cards and her knowledge in helping the foundation track down everyone who has been graduated from North or South High School. Hats off to Laurene!

If you painted a ceiling tile in Mrs. Roark's room and you would like to "reclaim it" at the end of the school year, please contact Mrs. Roark at roarkms@spr.k12.oh.us. If you didn't know, North is being demolished in late May of this year! The Alumni Foundation is hoping to preserve a few choice items.

2008 "Alumni of Distinction" Award Program on April 4th
The Springfield City Schools “2008 Alumni of Distinction Award” recipients have been chosen, according to committee chairman Dr. Richard A. Umbaugh. The annual awards will be presented at a public ceremony scheduled at Casey’s Restaurant, 2205 Park Road, on Friday evening, April 4th.
